Jenette’s Funeral
January 29th, 2006 by Steve · Leave a Comment ·
Today Emily and Lisa and I attended funeral services for our neighbor Jenette who died of Lukemia on January 4th. I put together a slide show–actually a video of photos– for the ceremony, and I had a moment of pure pride. Though I battle constantly with my desire for perfectionism in everything I do, forcing myself to “just let things go,” over the last few weeks I strove for nothing less than that very perfection in the video. I edited each and every photo of the nearly 200 that the family gave me. I customized the pans and zooms on each photo, I hand-sorted them into the perfect order to tell the story of Jenette’s life. I edited and re-edited. I deleted whole sections of video and started again. I never fought with the desire to do my very best on this, I only embraced it. The result was a video–shown in front of a few hundred people–that elicited sobs, laughter and, from a lot of people, praise and thanks. It was a moment of pure pride to honor the life of a friend.
