Although many nights of doing homework look like this for Emily, she really enjoyed her first creative writing paper. It was a 1-week assignment. Here is her paper in its entirety:
Invasion of the Talking Pets
By Emily McClelland
It all started late one night when I looked up into the sky and saw something was strange. The clouds were green and the rain was red. I woke up the next morning with sticky eyes and crept down the hallway toward the living room. I saw my mom, Lisa, hugging her knees. She was swinging a spatula wildly and screeching toward the floor. Now I knew something was really wrong.
There on the floor was my dog, Maximus talking in English like a human. “Calm down,” said Max. “I just want to talk to you!” I got very scared, so I ran. I got a broom and started swinging it at him. Finally we calmed down Max started demanding rights. “I want to eat people food. I want to be treated like part of the family,” he said.
We treated Max the way he wanted to be treated. He went to the bathroom on the toilet. He had his own room and bed. He even had his own job and money. Now it was getting on my nerves. I went up to Max and told him I didn’t like it at all. “I don’t have anyone to play tug o’ war with,” I said. “I don’t have a dog anymore!” Just when I thought it couldn’t get any weirder, he leaned back in his chair, set down his book, looked me in the eye and said, “Beep, beep, beep, beep.” It was my alarm clock beeping. I woke up and found out it was just a dream. There was no talking dog. Max came in and gave me a great big lick on the face.
