International soccer tourney opportunity for Vegas trip
February 17th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
Emily’s soccer team, Sacramento Real FC Endurance competed in the International tournament, “Mayor’s Cup” in Las Vegas over the President’s day weekend. We took advantage of the locale to take the kids to Sin City for their first time. Soccer tournaments can be time-consuming, but we still managed to walk a good bit of the strip and take in a few other tourist favorites. The high lite of the strip for me is always the

Our own town

After a McClelland family reunion in the Missouri Ozarks in 1991, sons Dan and Steven joined me for a long drive home in a van. We would sleep in the van or pitch our little tent, roughing it all the way. We would enjoy the sights, visiting such historic places as South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore, or a whisky-tasting stop in historic Weston, Missouri.

Doctor Bill preps teeth for haunted house
November 20th, 2013 · Leave a Comment
Doctor Bill Melarkey took time out of his crazy day on Halloween to fix up some dental problems. He wasn’t performing oral surgery or even filling cavities. He was moulding some monster teeth for me for this year’s Reaper’s Wrath haunted house. “It’s ironic,” said the family friend and accomplished dentist, “In the next room I’m working on the cutting edge of dentistry fitting some new implants for a patient, and in here I’m fitting some fangs for Halloween.”

Death Ride? Check! Bucket list in progress
July 15th, 2013 · Leave a Comment
Many people have a bucket list. Mine is a little different. I’ve decided to re-do items on my list as an adult. When I started cycling a few years ago this meant racing the Nevada City Classic again (which I have,) completing the Davis Double Century (which I haven’t,) and completing the Death Ride’s 5-pass challenge. This weekend I took on the Death Ride after some gentle prodding from Mike Nicholls, and Todd Schaffer. Cathy Paladini closed the deal a few weeks ago when she visited and told me that her daughter, Rachael wouldn’t be riding. This cemented the deal with this cheapskate: My entry was paid for.

On my ride today

When you’re as near to the Heaven’s as Donner Summit, it’s hard to ignore nature’s beauty, but there were just too many incredible things to see on my Independence Day ride from the cabin. So I yanked the phone out and captured the moments whenever I could.

A picture is worth at least a dozen words here

I’ve been having a blast lately going back and reading old posts (for some reason I’ve been focused on 2005 and 2006) and adding pictures to them.
Take a look at crazy cruise pictures from “Hot and Weary in Acapulco”, or look for a great shot of Les getting snockered in
