Wedding goers brave 100+ heat to take group photo twenty years ago
June 8th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
Twenty years ago, our closest friends and relatives braved the June heat at the Elk Grove Community Center to take our cherished wedding group photo. Twenty years later, I’ve been trying to scan it with little or no success. The original, it seems, it just

Patrick made it through a whole ride without crashing yesterday (after laying it down in the dirt on Friday) and Lisa took her new road bike out with us and achieved her personal goal of 20 miles on her first ride! Proud of both of you!

I usually plan ahead — way ahead — to gas up my car, but sometimes you get caught behind the eight ball. I’m 10th in line for gas at Costco right now. Sigh…
Oceanside Vacation Day 5: Easter and an aircraft carrier
June 1st, 2014 · Leave a Comment
No one wants to wake up at 7 am on vacation, but the kids were up in anticipation of the Easter egg hunt and the adults were up by default. The Easter Bunny brought sand toys, kites and other vacation-related toys for the kids. So by 8 am the kids took off in search of

Oceanside Vacation Day 4: Animals in the ocean
June 1st, 2014 · Leave a Comment
Today was all about the ocean. We barely left the house except to walk to the fishing pier and back, and chose instead to spend our time on the beach. The surf that had been extraordinarily high for the last few days-even prompting a weather warning of 6-12 foot waves-had subsided. The waves had previously banged against the rocks just off our deck. Now they were 50 feet

Hike in tunnel takes dark turn
May 27th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
Our normal hike near the cabin took a dark turn this memorial weekend. In fact it took several. We decided to walk into the western entrance to the now trackless Central Pacific Railway snow sheds. Just dark enough to be eerie, they are a gathering place for local graffiti artists and the walls are covered with constantly-changing street art. I could walk in here all day, but the group decided to turn back before long. But not before I could capture a few bits of local graffiti.

Blue sunset at Serene Lakes
May 25th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
I may have missed the light by just a few minutes, but it’s rare that the sky and lake are that blue after the sun has already set. I just loved the colors of this one–one of many scenery shots that I have taken from this exact location.
