Markofer anniversary party draws Steve to old stomping grounds

I had a blast catching up with old friends on the court where I grew up. The Markofers celebrated their 50th anniversary, and for me it was a chance to get reacquainted with my childhood friends. They were the first

family to move in to Haven Court (at 1 Haven Court) and are the last original family still there. In fact daughter, Becky bought the house next door-I got a tour that night.

Though is was Pat and Gary’s anniversary, I spent most of the time catching up with the four daughters, Vicky, Becky, Terri and Peggy. So many memories were dug up last night! The joke of the night (for me, at least) was that I was introduced to everyone as “the guy who lived in the murder house,” in reference to the house that I grew up in-the site of a home-invasion murder some 20 years later. I always had to answer with, “But I didn’t do it.” I also revealed to the crowd that I had received my first kiss in the Markofer house…with Becky, and I pointed out the exact location-though the closet where this took place is now converted to a den.

Also spotted at the party that night were Pam Stroth, Ruth Van Den Berg and Kelley and Kristin Aldrich.

Pat and Gary Markofer are an inspiration for staying together for 50 years and raising such a wonderful family.
