I raced for more than a decade in the 80’s and 90’s and never got a photo as good as this one in my first race back in more than 21 years.  And yes, that’s a Rio Strada jersey, the club that I helped found 30 years ago.

My odds may have seemed dismal in this photo with me in a sea of green, but I eked out a 3rd place and a second place for the day.  I’ll take it. After 21 years off the bike, the governing body of cycling in the U.S., USA Cycling saw fit to start me out as a category 5 racer. (I had worked my way up to Cat. 2 previously.) So for now I’ll have to put in my time and work my way back up the ladder.
