The American dream…and other fallacies

Using Picassa

January 31st, 2007 by Steve · Leave a Comment ·

I may have a new method of posting photo albums on the web. Click on the photo on the left to see one of my first Picasa albums. It may not be quite as slick as the ones I’ve been serving up at McClellandfamily.com, but I spent quite a bit of time on those, and this one took me all of about 5 minutes. Using Picasa to create some pretty vanilla albums I should be able to get these babies up a lot more often.

Picasa is a free software download from Google that helps you:
* Locate and organize all the photos on your computer.
* Edit and add effects to your photos with a few simple clicks.
* Share your photos with others through email, prints, and on the web: it’s fast, easy and free.

Plus I can create albums directly from iPhoto on my Mac. Sounds great, right? Well I’m not 100% sold.

If I seem a bit apprehensive, it’s because I posted several years worth of photos to my TextAmerica moblog account only to have them suddenly disappear with a message from the TA folks saying, “Too baaaad!” My McFam albums are stored on my own server and backed up by me on my own hard drives. Losing all of your photos when you have no control over them is a slap in the face. Needless to say, I don’t recommend TextAmerica.com. At least Picasa is owned by Google and they’re not going anywhere soon.
